i finally gunked and pressure washed the motor in my 66 c-30. the engine I.D. tag was very confusing; it looks as though it may have been stamped over. only 2 digits are overlapped. the beginning is CE7P278 then there are the numbers that look like they were over laped, or re stamped; it may be 10, or 67 followed by 03C C. can any one either point me twards a decoding site, or if any one knows what it is i would really appreciate it.

and the numbers from the exhaust manifold are for a 65-67 corvette 327. i would really like to know so that i can get a gasket set since i have discovered water in the oil and a leak comming from behind the timing cover. thanks

Is the engine still in the truck, or have you pulled it? The codes you list don't seem to be in the correct order or type for a factory instlled engine, I can't find anything in the books that matches. it's looking like the casting number will be the only way to Id it, and that's only going to get it close, as some blocks were used for multiple applications and displacements.

yes the motor is still in the truck. i know something about the ID tag is hinky, it has an extra letter in it (to say the least) but im still new to this so i dont really know what to do. is the casting number the one on the pad closest to the firewall? hey, close is better than where i am now! im thinking i might just take off one of the heads and take that with me to NAPA or Autozone or something to be able to match up the head gasket and hopefully figure out a starting place for what motor it is. it seemed like a good buy at the time, but its starting to be a nightmare. but i still love it! lol. . .its like an addiction or something!
