Because of rust issues i'm thinking of replacing my 61 cab with a 64 cab.
Has anyone here done this? Any problems putting the 64 cab on the 61 frame?

The 61 frame is torson bar type front end and is wider than the 64-66 frame.

you would proly need a whole front sheet metal clip. I don't think the hood and fenders will line up, but I'm not a fabricater.

the front sheetmetal is the same 60-66, but the cab mounting bolts are in a diff location as Tom said,, the frames are different. I know the 64-66 cab will fit the older frame by re-drilling the mounting holes, but I am not sure about going the other way. brian

You can do it,i had to put a 61 cab on my 64 frame and it worked out just fine,the backmounts are in the same position but you'll need to redrill the front mounts and move them out board a little bit,I dont know how the reproductions are but the original cab mounts on my truck had the two flat spots with the holes in them so they could go on either frame

What is different then? I'm not an expert on this vintage, But I thought the cab changed somewhere between the 61 and 62or 63 model years. The windshield was swept back, and the hood was streemlined a bit.

cab/doors are diff, 60-63 had the dogleg/wraparound w/s,,the bed,hood,fenders etc are all the same,,brian

How do you title it with the VIN plate being different. Even if you switch it it wont correspond to the model?

contact your local dmv. I am going thru the same process.once completed most states will need proof of wnership of the org. vehicle, and a formal reciept from the seller of your 64 cab.once you have it ready, you mostlikely will need to make an appt. to have the vehicle inspected by your local state police, or dmv.(thats how it is here in WA). once completed they will determine the year of the vehicle.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE VIN PLATE FROM EITHER VEHICLE.THIS IS PUNISHABLE BY LAW.just some info to pass along.

Ive changed the cab on a truck before and i just switched the Vin Tags, i dont know if it was illegal or not but we didnt have any issues with it, the only real issue is that there are special rivets that show if they have been tampered with.

I asked because I have a cab swap to make also, the year model will be the same so I dont have to worry about mounting problems. I was more concerned with what other states regs are. My argument for removing plate and reinstalling would be to eliminate existing rust and better rust prevention and painting.

the reason i changed my cab was because the truck had been stole, stripped and then burnt whoch destoryed the wiring, along with destroying the entire cab, most the police and law officials around here are understanding and probably wouldnt worry about it to much.
