The crimp is at the top of the loop where it begins to turn down to the head. Does this need to be replaced or can I live with it? The engine has been running like this but I'm wondering what could possibly happen? I would appreciate anyone's experience on this. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Every one I have seen is crimped at least a little. Maybe someone knows if this was an "adjustment" made at the factory to allow oil flow out the end of the tube but to also increase oil pressure in the block and flow into the rocker arm tubes?

The output line from my oil pump is also crimped like this, and I figured someone crimped it on purpose to increase oil pressure. I'll have to check the oil connector on the rocker shaft. | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 160 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 160 | This was to force oil thru the rocker shaft and not shoot out the tube. Kind of a mickey mouse deal but it worked. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | That line is simply an overflow tube to vent excess oil from the rocker shaft. Crimping it puts more oil to the rockers and less being dumped back into the crankcase. Leave it "as is" and be happy you've got enough oil flow to make it leak a little! Sometimes the feed pipe from the bottom of the engine gets clogged or restricted, and the rockers get starved for lubrication. Jerry
