Well the first thing I did when I bought this truck was try to stop the leaks. I disconnected engine and jacked it up in place. Changed the oil pan gaskets and thought I had it licked.

Now this thing is leaking so bad the oil is sweeping down my exhaust pipe. Im getting ready to pull out everything and seal it all. I see one from coming from the fuel pump but there is more to it I'm sure.

Does anyone have any tricks or information on historical areas for the 230 6 cyl that I need to address? I want to have everything in my hands before I start.

If its running down the exhaust pipe its probably the valve cover gasket. That is the most common place on these engines. Even if it has a new gasket it can fall out of place when installing the cover. Fix the most obvious leaks & take it to a car wash & clean it all down. Then watch for other leaks. Make shure the PCV system is working. If it doesn,t have a tube running to the air filter it must have a ventilated oil cap.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

shor...good luck. I did the same thing that you are talking about a few months back to an engine I got from a fellow bolter. Replaced every gasket I could find on the engine including the rear main. I still got small leaks from time to time.

You might want to pop off the oil filler cap and see how much blow-by you have. Primary cause is high miles, worn or stuck rings, worn valve guides. If it isn't huffin and puffin with the filler cap off.....and the PVC valve is functioning properly, you're headed in the right direction which replacing gaskets (with neopreme) and sparingly with the sealer.

Great question and great tips and suggestions.

To be precise, the New York Times publishes the leaks, the leaks actually occur in various agencies and organizations. grin :p
