i know that the short step beds are the same from 55 second series through 66 correct? i was recently told that the sides front and tailgate were the same through 87 and that only the fenders and the step pattern are different? is this really true? (concerning short step only)

55-66 true, tailgate is the same to the 80's, not sure about the sides and front - ask in the making a bed forum, MarK will know

Actually, there are three different beds in the years 55 through 66 and they won't interchange without modifications. Lots of subtle differences from 54 to 87. Our article on bedside interchangeability covers many of the things that changed over the years. On our website go to http://www.mar-k.com/installation_hints.html and scroll down to "Bed Installation" and select "Bed Side Interchangeability" for more details.
