it has a rochester C-1 that is flooding out.
also it sits on a 1/2 " thick black hard plastic (bakelite ?) base that is cracked and no good.
i see carbs on ebay - i am wondering which ones will work on my truck and also where can i get a replacement for the gasket riser ?

The flooding carb may be something as simple as an incorrect float setting or a dirty or worn out needle/seat. I'd try rebuilding it first, you never know what you're getting from e'bay, might be worse than what you have now.

Most of the reproduction parts vendors (look in the Links section) sell the carburetor insulator.

Rebuild kits are available from most local auto parts stores and from many on-line vendors.

Just about any 1954-1962 Rochester carburetor (manual or automatic chokes) should work with your engine (the 235 carb is a little different from the 261 carb - maybe someone else will comment on interchangeability).

its a funny thing that while the carb was overflowing with gas and i was trying to start... then when checking a couple of plugs... they were dry as a bone !!
i rebuilt this carb a couple years ago ... but the truck has sat since.
how many times can you rebuild ? several ?

I had the same problem caused by way to much fuel pressure. Most auto parts stores sell a universal regulator. You don't want to be above 3lbs. or so. I also added a small fuel gauge which are inexpensive and allow you to dial in the pressure.

You can rebuild them as many times as you want unless the linkage & shafts get worn out, which isn't very often on that carb. Those are so simple. You can take the top off & check the needle & seat & float. Any time a carb floods over too much fuel is getting by the needle & seat. It is usually a piece of dirt in it but can be a bad float or too much pressure like #43 says. The 60 up carbs had the fuel line going in the side & a different air filter mount.

that carter/weber is priced right. a better product ?
is it as easy as just bolting it on - as a replacement for the rochester c-1 on my 59 fleetside ?

Better call Tom fast if you want one. I just bought the Holly/Weber setup from him and he said he was about out and no more expected.
