I put together an old compressor today. It's a Ingersall Rand Type 30 with a 3HP single phase motor. The old compressor turns pretty easy, can almost spin it with one hand. The motor ran great on the floor with no load. I misjudged the size of the belts, but was able to roll them on, with out that much extra effort. I've got maybe a 1/4 in. flex if I'm lucky. The problem is it will run for 2-3 minutes and trip the circuit breaker.

Possible causes 1. Driving compressor too fast. Contact IR for max compressor RPM. Reduce motor sheave dia to get in right RPM 2. No oil in compressor?? 3. Blockage in piping? 4. Undersized motor 5 230 motor on a 120 line?? It is also possible you are starting against pressure. Unload compressor before restart.

I do think the motor is undersize, but that's what I had. The motor is wired for correct voltage, and only turns 1750 rpm. I'll have to check oil, and for blockage. I don't see an unloader, but I need to get a manual for the Type 30 compressor. If a smaller sheave doesn't do it, I may have to let it sit till I find another location.
