Well no. There'll be no cracking in here.

Valves. They control when intake and exhasut enter a cylinder head (and a bit of how much).

Now, I'm on a psychotic binge on making my inline faster while being cheap at it.

As far swapping heads with other inlines, could I put another head onto my 250 (from a motor that is other than a 250) and improve engine performance?

If this is so, what head would you recommend putting on a 1967 250 inline 6 that would also fit my original intake and exhaust manifolds?

The 194 head used on early chev-II raises compression ratio a little. A modified cam would be the next easiest step. The heads can be modified to flow better but that would get involved.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

All 230, 250, and 292's use the same basic head, except for the intergal late models which should be avoided at all cost! So with this information, NO swapping heads will not produce more performance! Like Wrenchbender said, the 194 head will produce more compression, but even it needs modifing to produce more power.

There is no magic part for more power on a inline, the best you can hope for is a few more horses with a manifold, carb, and exhaust. When they start out at 140 HP, it takes tons of work just to get in the 200 range.

The intake was designed for cheap dependable transportation. They work pretty good for everyday driving but really suck when it comes to performance. Even with a good carb, the outer cylinders will run a bit lean, thats why a 3 carb intake works so good. Each set of cylinders has its own carb to pull air from.

Start shopping for a RV style cam and different intake. If you are after a lot of power, start looking for a V-8, it will be cheaper to make power with. Joe

I just dumped 400 bucks into new oil seals.... don't plan on looking at a V8 for a while.

Ouch. I heard those integral heads are NOT good. But hopefully you can make it work good.

Hey wait a sec! Split exhaust and 2 barrel carbs are stock on that motor! you cheater!

Haha... just kiddin'. But seriously, EVERY STATEMENT involving the words 'integral' and 'head' on this site usually also involves the word 'junk'. But hey, at least you have that 2 bbl! I've seen them too... those engines are just plain weird!

Niiiiice smile Let me know how that integrwted ehad runs compared to the one barrel. And if the exhaust sounds any cooler with a split manifold.
