For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 | Is the chrome faceplate on this Classic Parts Radio installed on the passenger side of the dash where it can be seen or on the back side of the dash where it cannot be seen? This is important to me because the previous owner did a hack job on my dash. If the chrome faceplate is on the passenger side of the dash it will cover the damage to the dash. Thank you. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I don't think there is any way that it would mount on the back side. The normal dash opening has a lip turned inwards so that plate would go on the outside. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 | I contacted Customer Service at Classic Parts. The person I spoke to said it mounts on the back side of the dash, but he didn't sound sure of himself and I'm not sure I believe it. That's why I'm asking you guys. If the faceplate mounts on the back of the dash, there's the lip issue mentioned above, and why would it be chrome? You wouldn't be able to see it. On the other hand, if it mounts up front, the faceplate must be removable, because there would be no way to get the faceplate up front and the radio in back (unless the entire radio stuffs through the hole in the dash). Hopefully somebody who owns one will chime in soon. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | you're right, they wouldn't waste the $$ chroming that large plate if it was going to be hidden behind the dash .... I suspect the service guy didn't understand what you were meaning and was just saying the radio itself mounted behind .... it does say Features chrome face

I have see those radios installed without the chrome back plate, unless someone has butchered your dash, then they are on the front to hide the hack job. | | |
