Well!

Im in the middle…/ ..start? Of getting the truck, chevy 3100. (235ci engine) on the road for the 1st time over here, (the u.k), and also my 1st usa motor.

Im in the middle of making the wiring looms from scratch, done a loada painting, priming, welding ect over the months and getting all the running gear right. (stock) new breaks, ect ect, and we are getting closer to the engine,

I already know the headers are not sitting right and leaking, a new short shaft water pump is ready to go on due to the fan hitting the rad, do the tappets, oil ect.....
The rad is leaking so that’s guna be coming out, which will also help with fitting of the water pump.

My question is, while I have good access with the wings and rad removed…should I do anything with the timing chain? …replace it?...do i have one??

Should I look at anything else for an easier summer with the truck on the road?

havnt got a clue of the quality of the engine / gear box ....it runs (just) and drives ok....
any help or pointer would be great....just the summer...! thats all!

I'd use the water pump relocation plate over a short shaft pump. Currently have a short shaft pump on mine and won't do that again, no problems but not that great either..

No timing chain, just gears, if you're not tearing into the engine and don't suspect any problems with them I'd leave it alone.

May want to replace the front crank seal if it needs it or if you expect it may soon.
