For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 59 | Probably obvious question for most but not for me. I have my 1950 1/2 stock. It has the original 216 with the 3 speed on the tree. The engine runs great but it won't go into gear! It doesn't grind as and when I push in the clutch, put it in gear, and then let off on the clutch, NOTHING! It feels like there is nothing spinning in the clutch to get it in gear. I am not familiar with how it all works and I'm of course hoping for some easy clutch repair part rather than thinking the tranny is bad. Thanks for any help! If you take the floor pan out there is a clutch inspection plate on the bell housing held on by two screws. You can also pull the dust shield underneath and look for scattered clutch parts. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 59 | Yes, this happens (or doesn't happen) in all gears. I took off the bottom plate and didn't see anything obvious. I will look at the inspection plate through the floorboard. Am I looking for anything in particular? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | Since you already have the bottom shield off, have some body depress the clutch and look at the disk. It should have approximate equal material on both sides at 1/8" to 1/4" thick. Since you can shift into gear with the engine running I suspect the problem is not the clutch. | | |
