In the middle of switching over my drive line and axle on my 1 ton to a standard rear. Pulling apart the rear since I am also cutting a 21in section from the truck, came to realize that the 2 piece drive shaft would not work in this situation and since the transmission does not have a standard setup where I can slide a late model shaft easily into place, I am at a quandary what to do next. It looks as though I would need a 62-63in slip spline shaft in order to fit it in there and from what I can tell that does not exist.

Thoughts.. would a 2 piece work there or by shortening the wheel base is that limiting my option?

Look under a '55 1/2-ton truck and see what it has.

I do, but I can't....

My '55 1st GMC Suburban has an SM420 4-speed and a single piece open drive line. You need a similar setup.

I'm not likely to be able to crawl under it again before Fall at the soonest due to some medical issues.
