Title says 47. I just paid $3000 for it a few weeks ago. I love this site cause I know I will have questions. I like the originality of the truck. The engine is original and I have a notebook of receipts from the 60's. Everything that was done to it. It has had two engine rebuilds. Let me know what you know about these trucks. I am learning and know very little. I love taking my son to school (he is nine) and getting the looks and laughs. The only thing is... YOU CAN'T BE IN A HURRY!! Thanks for your help.
Someone tell me how to get new rear daul tires when there is only a half inch between the ones already there. I think they are the original tires. Someone help me out.

I love your truck!

I'm not sure I understand your question about the rear tires. You should be able to unbolt the outer dual and remove both. A Chevy 1-ton with duals would have 18 inch wheels and take a tire that seems to only be available from limited sources. I can't tell from you pictures what tires you have, but I can tell the wheels are different than a 1-ton Chevy and different from what is found on GMC trucks just a few years later.

You call it a '46 but say its titled as a '47. Poke the serial number from the body into the serial number tool at Maxwell Garage. That may clarify if it was made in '46 or '47.

Yes, if you unbolt the outer they both come off. The problem is I want new tires, but new tires are going to be wider and they will rub together. Can you buy narrow tires like the originals?

I will check out the cab numbers. Thanks for your help.

What size are the tires? If they are the same as a Chevy 1-ton then yes you can buy tires to fit, or at least I've found them available in the last year or two.

The tires are 7.5-16. I noticed the duals are almost touching right now. I know if I go to purchase new ones they will be wider. I may keep looking. I bet if I find some I will have to pay for them.

Have you asked a tire shop?

I have a 1941 1 Ton Chevy Pickup. I understand that the Chevy and GMC 1941 to 1946 model was carried over to the first quarter of 1947 so I am not suprised that it could be identified as a 1947 model.

I am surprised that you have 16" wheels usually they were 17" or 20". The 20" used a front fender with a larger opening.

You can not be in a hurry with that low rear end probably 5.12 or lower, 45 mph is probably tops. Larger diameter tires would help your to speed considerably.

The good news is you have a 228 full pressure main bearing engine that lasts longer.

Try Coker Tire in Chattanooga TN for your tires, they specialize in antique tires and rims. When I went to Minnesota to pick up my 1 Ton I stopped there and got 4 tires and tubes off the shelf to get it home on.

Nice!! And nothing to laugh at; they should just be pointing and appreciating. Have fun with it.

I, too, am surprised you have 16" tires on that; my 49 had 17s when I got it.
