I have a chance to pick up a 3 speed OD trans year unknown for my stock 58 speed.

Is this a good conversion to make?
Do I have to cut the driveshaft?
What should I look out for?
I haven't heard many people doing this conversion.
I could use a extra gear.

Thanks

Regards,
Lindsay

if you want an easy way to get better highway gearing, it's good
if it's a truck trans, it should be a dirct bolt in
look out for 'complete and works', including the electric bits like the solenoid
if you search "3 speed OD" you should be able to find lots here about folks using it and much discussion

your 58 has a 4bolt side cover, some later model saginaw 3sp/od trans had a 7 bolt side cover. they will change without a problem, but the shift arms are not the same so you will need to do some changes with the shift linkage.
