the door latches always hang up on my 57, and the previous owner installed new ones.
every time i open both doors from the inside, i have to make sure i point the inside handle in the correct spot, then on the outside i have to press the handle button like 2-3 times to make the latch click, or the door wont shut. I have to do this every single time I go to close the doors. My one friend has gotten use to it, but anyone else I take for a ride, I have to close the door for them because they don’t know how to do it. Its very frustrating, and I want to do something about it, but tried everything. Like I said, all the mechanics of them seem to be new. And I have oiled and lithium greased the heck out of them already, to no avail.
just curious if any of you have the same problem with your truck ? i just cant seem to get them working correctly.

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | When you open the door theres a spring in your latch [censored]. that should pop the latch open I would replace that spring you can get them from one of the venders maybe the springs are old or just not good springs if you have the door open and push the latch closed when the door is still open you should see and hear it snap in then when you pull the door handle to open you should see it and hear it pop open if the spring is weak it will not reset itself when you open the door.

leonard | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | Len - aside from that coil spring under the handle, note there's a small amount of adjustment possible in the triangular mounting of the relay, it may not be moving quite far enough when you open it - also make sure the cover panel isn't binding the relay arm, originally there was a bit of felt or something to let things slide smooth without rattling

i know it did the same thing when i had the panel off, so something else is going on in there and binding it up when opening from the inside handle.
its driving me crazy, and i need to spend some time with it soon.
