1950 3100. Does anyone have pictures or info on the small parts and seals to put the parking brake shaft back together. This is the curved round shaft that goes from the pedal through the floorboard and is part of the holding mechanism for when the brake is set. This shaft was never in my truck so I do not have a frame of reference. The parts I have are: a shouldered washer, a spring, another flat washer, a rectangular leather type washer and a square thick felt/rubber pad. All of these go over this shaft somewhere. I believe the thick felt pad is the bumper that goes on the end of shaft on the engine side of the floorboard. The assembly manual does not give a great picture or explaination and because the manual deals with 54's, it may not be entirely accurate for a 50. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The foot operated e-brakes are identical for all AD years so the information shown for the 54 should be able to work for you. The green cover assembly manual shows this very well.

It helped me, Atomarc. Thanx. That spring between the lock and the floorboard does not show well in the Factory Assembly Manual but it is labeled. I've got mine in the wrong place.

Hi Atomarc,
Thanks for posting that link, I never knew that it was out there. In my case, I know it will be quite useful!

thanks stu

but what that link mis-leads you in viewing is the brake rod does NOT connect directly to the big brake pedal arm. connected to the arm is the lateral extension that is under the floor about 6-7inches to the right (as you sit in the cab looking down) and a short tab is welded to the extension. the brake rod connects to that tab.

Thanks for the info as well guys....but let me ask another question:

I can't get my parking brake to "catch" and hold on my truck...got an exploded drawing describing that?? Everything is hooked-up but I don't hear the familiar sound of the e-brake locking and holding when you put your foot to it.

Blue 50,

Part # 4.603/Lock needs to have crisp edges where #4.603/Bar passes through it. This lock bites into and wedges the bar. You don't like exploded drawings???

Stu,

I love exploded drawings!!! Thanks again for the info. I'll take a file to the lock and sharpen-up the edges...

OK...decided to take the assembly apart and get a better look at it and promptly sheared both bolt's that hold the lock guide to the floorboard. Looks like they have never been removed. The spring is also bent and will need to be replaced too.

I thought there might be some teeth on the shaft but it looks like the e-brake uses pressure against the shaft that holds it.....is that the way it works??

The manual doesn't offer much help either. Can anyone 'splain how the system works and ways to adjust the tension to keep the e-brake engaged?

Chuck

I had to fool with mine for a while before I got it to catch. The key is in the "angle of the dangle". What I mean is you may have to bend the lock arm to a steeper angle. for it to catch. That is what fixed mine.
