I know this subject has been discused many times before. I have researched the site and found a few examples. Im considering using the famous blazer tank.
Stock measurements I found so far.

Need some exhaust clearance on the right.Wondering what depth I can get away with?
Witch one of these tanks would be the best? Anyone out there got pics to share? Would appreciate some pics & feedback.

Must be someone who has made the conversion. Photo's & feedback from fellow bolters would be very much appreciated. What are the things to avoid?

The Blazer tank works well on a 1/2 ton; it's a bit wide for the narrow frame on a 3/4 ton. I know that because I bought one and it was about 2 inches too wide. I still have it, new and unused. I also have the 9 volt sending unit that goes with it. Contact me PM if interested.

Thanks to advice from a fellow bolter, I'm learning how to search. Instruction sheet printed out. Have been practising and now able to find what I'm looking for.

I am using a 1969 Mustang gas tank. It fits inside of the stock frame rails, although you have to trim a little of the bottom channel about a 1/4" towards the rearend. I drilled out the rear crossmember rivits, and will be bolting it back in. When removed, the Mustang gas tank will slide right in. You can see the tank installed in my album link below under 1955 Truck Project 2.

how many gallons,and what is your plan for a filler?did you use any suport saddles or just hang it on the flange?

Gas tank from '53-'54 Chevy car fits great under the bed of the 1/2 ton pick up. It's mounted in the area where the original spare tire would be. The filler neck comes out on the driver side rear fender. Capacity is 16 gallons. You will have to make up a 1.5" dia. elbow (go to a muffler shop for this) to connect the filler neck to the inlet neck on the tank. For a filler neck you can use the '53-'54 Chevy car , or what I did was use the neck off a 1990 Caddy fleetwood tank. I used a gas filler door off a 1986 Buick LaSabre and welded it into the fender. Or you can buy all this stuff from Hagan's and spent the big bucks. I like the boneyard stuff that can fabricate to fit my needs and budget.

Here's an update on moving the gas tank from behind the seat.
While searching on line I came accross a universal tank sold by a Co. called Tanks Inc. Previously, I had read some good stuff about this Co. in Classic Truck magazine & also in this forum.

I chose a ss tank, 34"long 10"wide x 11"high. Here's the plan!

Install tank underneath, against the inside of the frame, passenger side, behind the cab, in direct line with original gas filler, cab floor, & top of the new tank.
Drill hole in cab floor in direct line of new tank filler hole
Weld exhaust pipe from gas filler area through the floor inside, allowing about 2" of steel pipe to protrude under the cab. A flexable rubber hose connection will join the underbed tank to the original filler, via the protruding steel pipe. Install new fuel injection pump same type as original Astro Doner vehicle.

What I like about this is, I won`t need an alternative fuel filler & door. No need to weld over the original cab fuel filler.
Both the spare tire storage and the original gas filler remain useful. This will keep the outside body looking stock.
I am waiting for the new tank to be delivered. I will post more pics as I go.
