The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Undercoating Solution (Photos)

The engine is complete and now I would like to have the undercoating applied. A friend of mine has undercoated his fathers truck and will be doing mine as well.

He says he would like to pressure wash it then air blast dry and then let it dry overnight with a torpedo heater. Then he wants to apply the coating.

What coating should i use? One guy recommends Mar-Hyde Brand No. 4111 Under Coating spray can.

Is the undercoating going over a rust free painted surface, or is the surface rusty? If it's rusty it's gonna keep rusting.
Undercoating has its pro's and con's It's great for hiding things.
Like rusty floors, frame rails & paint overspray, but it wont make the rust go away, & it will trap moisture.
On the other hand, it will protect a clean & painted surface until moisture gets behind it.

If you are just looking to clean up the underneath of your truck for a while without making a project out of it, make sure it is completely dry after you pressure wash it. Id let it set inside a warm building for a few days. Then once it's undercoated, try to keep it out of the wet weather.
As far as what brands to use, I think Mar-Hyde & 3M are probably the best in a spray can, although 3M products are getting pricey these days.
