Hi All,

I havent been on in awhile, but i was wondering if you all can help me. I need to figure out a price for my 1957 Chevy Suburban. My insurance company has given me a very rough starting point, they have valued it at 10,000.
It has:
327HO
turbo 400 trans
six bolt rally rims
dual exhaust
RCI Fuel cell (orginal tank was junk)
After Market Full wiring harness (not installed)
It runs and drives, but needs a full restore.

That's a very generous starting point. After looking at the pictures, my guestimate would put it at $1800-$3000. It's a good starter truck for someone who wants to do a Rat Rod or a total restoration.

That is also a generous way of saying something to you in a very nice way. The insurance company is not in the business of selling your truck. They are in the business of making money through policy premiums. My advice would be to drive that sucker off a cliff as soon as possible and collect the 10 G's!
Less than obvious modifications or not, there is no conceivable way that you can get someone to write you a (cashable) check for $10,000.00 in this, or any forseen economy.
An agreed value policy does not mean that your vehicle has been appraised by the ins. co. and that is now the market value of the truck. It simply means that they will charge you premiums based on 10 grand. Nothing more. I agree with GMONIZ' value assessment. Old trucks are a hobby not an investment.

if they continue to give you a hard time. because I do appraisals. I do have what is called an internet appraisal for $100.00 to stovebolt members. You would need to include the needed photos and info for the report. My appraisals are accepted by all major insurance companies including the specialty insurance companies like JcTaylor,Grundy and others. Just drop my a line. 413.774.5856 Brian

Yes, better to PM the fellow with the offer about the appraisal. I sent Brian a note about our rather "vague" advertising policy. Hopefully, we can get some good feedback on this.

I didn't see a link the one for parts and accessories, but I was looking under PSAA in the 1inks section.

Good morning Peggy. Here is an iffy idea I just had. How about starting a thread in the events and new stuff forum where fellow stovebolters can plug themselves. You would have control over the posts to prevent abuse and the rest of us could easily find a fellow stovebolter who does what we need to have done.

Not a bad idea ... if we knew each other. I don't know. I guess I'm just a big Internet Scardy Cat.

On the radio this morning, there was a story about a new Internet app that's kinda like Facebook and all those. It's for people who are stranded (out of town, at airports, etc.). The one fellow telling the story had given his address. Then he realizes that when he's on this site, talking about being stranded at LAX waiting for a flight, folks will know his home is vacant.

AND part of the story was there is actually a web site Please Rob Me.com . Gosh, I was horrified (what a story to wake up to ... I thought nightmares were suppose to happen when you SLEEP!!).

So maybe today isn't a good day to think about that idea.

However, maybe there is a way to get a list of what Stovebolters do (as it related to the hobby). We'd have to ask for references from others (a few Stovebolters would be nice - although a non-Stovebolter with an arm-sleeve full of credentials would do ;)).

Sooooooo ... this sounds like a project ...... for someone but ME!!! Any takers?

that kind of "offer" belongs in one of the swap forums, I don't see confusing the discussion areas with it - might be an idea to add one for "services offered", then like the rest of the swap it's "buyer beware", and happy custies can add their 2¢

Ya, Know this is the first. That email got me a bit.off peg. You should know me as I did donate items to this site etc. I sent you an email. and for those who do not realize it. I have had that at the bottom of my postings for two years till now. I am a small business guy just trying to get off the ground. I have been laid off 7 times from the time I moved here to ma in 2000. but, I am stuck here as I love the area. In stead of blabbing it on this thread why did you not just PM me. My posting is perfectly fine as it is what the topic is about. am I wrong?

I have another screen name I can not remember the codes to but, it is my personal one and I DO have many other trucks. some I have sold over time. and made room for what I want now like my 51 Burb. I just got.

I do have many parts related to the Chevy/GMC Trucks. They are NOT all listed on my new site. I have gone back to collage and in time I should have a good bit up there. I make vintage braided cloth wiring harness for example that a vendor has ordered from me so, my time is slim. and Peg. Everything is cool. It was good to talk to you on the tellie. I like the way you set up your signature line. Looks like a regular biz card, which is good info.

Neat to hear you are working with Jim Carter on some stuff! I know those wiring harnesses will come in handy for many old truck folks.
