Does anyone have that tool box cover/lid that goes under the suburban driver seat?
I have one that I thought was a lid but its about 1/4in short on both sides if centered over access hole. Its a bit longer from the battery lid. Is there something else that needs to be in the access hole for the lid to lock in place?

Any pictures out there of your toolbox access hole that you could provide here to compare??

Thanks
Javier

Javier, the panel has two openings and the second opening lid will not fit into the suburban drivers seat opening. I have only seen one cover in a picture that shows both lids. The drivers seat lid has different radius and width than the passenger seat lid (panel only) You may have to fabricate your own by converting battery box covers to fit.

I have both covers/lids (actually, all three covers/lids, if the battery hole cover is included) for a 1953 Panel truck. These do not fit the 47-55 Suburban storage compartment, which did not have a cover.

I have been searching for several years, through speaking with other truck enthusiasts, literature, other forums, etc. and have come to the conclusion that GM (chevy or GMC) did not make covers to fit the storage compartment under the drivers seat for suburbans. I do have a cover thats fits the panel truck tool boxes (somewhere along the lines of 9.5" x 16"), which comes up short of the overall length of the suburban storage hole.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone that has found information that differs from what I have come across.

The only covers i have seen were for the panel and CE. If there was a cover for the suburban it sure would be hard to access.

Well I had best change my Swap Meet For Sale item that is listing an extra tool box cover I have. The larger cover came with the 49 Burb that I have.

thanks for the education. tom

Tom,

Does the cover you have fit the opening? If possible, would you please post a photo or two?

Thanks,

TOM,
I guess that would make two of us with tool tray lids for sale?
I was gonna try and rig something up from an extra battery cover first.
But, like another bolter mentioned. How will we be able to get anything in or out of there without taking the seat off?
Maybe just leave it uncovered?

I have a '52 GMC Suburban. It has a box on both the passenger and driver floor under where the seats would be. I also wondered how you would get into the one under the drivers seat. They both have lids with the twist lock.

Was your suburban used as a school bus with bucket seats? Did the seat riser go the full width of your cab?

You're good, George.

Photos of the floor, the holes, and the covers would be very nice in this discussion. This weekend, I'll try to find the three different cover that I have for a 1953 Panel (but, I do not have a panel to take pictures of the floor).

If no one has Suburban floor photos, I'll try to take photos of those. My availability this weekend is very limited - March Madness has started.

My seat riser goes all the way across the cab. The Sub had seen use as a military vehicle of some sort. I took some full width cab photos but am not having luck uploading them here. I'll try again to figure it out. I didn't get but one old bomber looking seat that was not even fastend down when I got the truck.

So now I uploaded the pictures to my Photobucket, they will be the first three photos.

George is correct. It looks like a panel body "riser". Most likely you have a panel truck that was converted into a "crew bus".

This was common in the military and in other fields, like forestry.
