If you look at the spindle and think about the way things like the backing plate attach its not hard to see why a dropped spindle would be difficult to make work.
Dropped axles are available and the price isn't much different than the cost of quality dropped spindles for an IFS truck.

scott... yea, machinists seem to be able to make just about anything. i bet they were expensive, being on-offs.
