hey guys, i'm curious to know if my front and rear shoes/drums are the same on my 50'1 ton,also do they use a different m.cylinder than the 1/2 tons?

Am working on my one ton brakes today. The wheel cylinders are 1-3/8" diameter, same front and rear. Best I can determine, shoes are same front and rear as well. The master cylinder uses a larger master cylinder than the 1/2 tons.

What year is your truck Jon? The documentation for a '50 says fronts are 12 inch and rear are 14, front is 2 inches wide and rear is 2-1/2 wide.

Those numbers are consistent with what I've seen on my own '54.

The 1-3/8 is the wheel cylinder diameter. and 12" for the drum size would be about right.

The documentation says a '49 1-ton has 12x2 in the front and 14x2-1/2 in the rear.

A 3/4-ton would have 11x1-3/4 brakes in front and 12x2 in the rear. Either you need to look again at your rear brakes or they have been swapped for 3/4-ton brakes.

Or I suppose its possible Chevy's documentation is wrong. I've been getting that a lot lately, no one seems to trust Chevy's documents over what they see on their own 50 and 60 year old truck.

It seems far more likely to me that something has been changed than that Chevy didn't know what parts they put on their trucks.

My 49 gmc has 12 front and 14 rear, all 4 wheel cylinders use the same casting only the adjuster is different, I'm sure that the master cylinder is a larger bore then the 1/2ton.
