Thanks guys. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy gearhead695456, the pump should prime itself, as long as the oil level is correct, you can prime it first if you like by removing the distributor, and driving the oil pump with an electric drill and a special shaft, or you could remove all your spark plugs, and turn the engine over with the starter for a few seconds, if you have a good oil pressure gauge you should see it come up if everything is working as it should, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 19 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 19 | Thanks 3B, Ive read around where guys had packed the inside of the pump with a heavy grease or vaseline , maybe this is just for a new engine? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,768 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,768 | Not really necessary to pack the pump, just pour a little oil into it to get the gears wet. If you do pack it, use Vaseline- - - -it dissolves when the oil hits it. Grease can pack into a passageway and restrict oil flow to bearings downstream.
