I started restoring my 53 ¾ ton pickup. The 216 motor had a crack block so it will not be used. I have on hand a 1953 235 motor out of a Belair. My first question is will a 292 motor fit as the 216 motor? The next question is on the 235 motor how much HP can I get out of the motor? And what do I have to do to get it. I will be bolting up the motor to a turbo 350 due to I am unable to drive a stick due to only on leg. I am trying to keep the truck look as original as possible. Thank you for any help.

the 292 is longer and requires new mounts.

You can get an ok amount of power out of the 235, however it will cost you a lot to make big power numbers.

get a TH200R4 or TH700R4 over a TH350. You will need a trans adapter and to change the motor mounts and center crossmember for the automatic.

I would look @ the possibility of 261. Same engine family as 216 much easier than 292 more power than 235; helps w auto trans

Because you are going automatic, go with the 292. That will be one less step or adapter. Motor should fit fine, and you will have some ability to move it forwards or backwards when initially setting it up to fit.

Usually I would reccomend going the other way, and finding a 261 to bolt in. The 292 will make far more power far cheaper than the 261.

Good Luck

Thank You for the info. I am now looking to find a 292 motor in a nice price range.
