I have this heater in my 1952 truck.

I just converted to 12 volt, and I need a replacement for this 6 Volt blower to 12 Volt. Any suggestion for source?

Thanks

If you get a parts man to help you out, they have a catalog that lists all the motors by dementions & direction of rotation.
You can use a resister on your 6 volt motor or I've just run them on 12 volts.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Tim, thanks, I did not think the 6 volt was the same size as the 12 volt, I was just over-thinking the whole thing.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Cheers,

The motor for the pictured heater needs the 1/4" shaft, not the 5/16. Your fan needs that size. If the vendor doesn't state the size you better ask.

When I bought a new motor from Classic for mine it came with the adaptor for the shaft size difference.

Thanks guys. I ordered one from Classic and they said that I have to drill out the fan shaft hole to 5/16" I should have it tomorrow.

I also drilled a hole on top of the heater housing, and installed resistors from a Toyota, so now I will have three speeds.

I returned a 5/16" shaft motor for a 1/4" because it did not look like the fan mounting device would have enough meat to keep the fan attached if drilled out. Maybe it will work well for you but there is not much there to begin with.

There are some 12v motors that have a 1/4" shaft with a sleeve that equals 5/16" .You basically need to ask questions. The other half is 5/16" shaft on the motor.

Don't throw out the option of rebuilding yours. If there's no short in windings or trashed insulation, the motor should serve its purpose. In a motor that unimportant, you can even patch repair a short or crummy insulation.

I am not sure if these numbers are still good. I pulled the information from an old post. Grainger has what you need in a 12 volt motor / direct replacement. (12DC Perm Mag Motor Item #2M197) $15.81. I did a search and the item comes up discontinued. The replacement is 42.00 or so http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/3LCH7 It has a 1/4" shaft it looks like.

Sorry for late reply, and thanks for all the advise.

I did end up drilling my fan, the only thing was that the fan came loose off the hub. No big deal, I just tacked it back, evenly, to keep it balanced, and it works OK.

I added a Toyota 3 speed switch and resistor, and installed it in the housing just like late model cars, the top speed is way to fast and loud.

I will however send back the electric wiper conversion from Classic Parts, they forgot to tell you that you will not be able to use the choke !, and the speed and sweep is very poor.

Yes, I can relocate the choke, but who wants to look at an empty hole in that purdy dash?

The Newport motor is from a different company, and may be better engineered. This unit sits directly in front of the choke cable, several Stovebolters have reported the same.

Classic Parts seemed indifferent, they just said they have not had any returns.
The sweep was 2/3 of the glass with no slack in linkage, and the speed was dismal.

I just sent it back, I may just make my own.
