the serial number comes up '59-'62, and is a truck application engine. There is a casting date code on the engine. It's behind the starter on the right side of the block. It should have a month/year code.

Hi Brott, and Welcome to The Stovebolt.

Here's a great website with tons of info. Although the page is for 1959, it will help you understand your engine serial number.
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/59tsn03.htm

The head casting number you posted should be 3836848. Sometimes those 3's & 8's are hard to read.

Your block also has a casting number on the same side as the date code. Can you post it when you get a chance. It will be something like 3738307.
