For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | i have a old b that i bought a while back that has been sitting for years. i started a rebuild but the power piston is stuck inside the air horn. anyone know a good way to get it out. i am letting it soak a little with some carb cleaner i sprayed on it in hopes it will pull out. also this carb has a brass tube below the jet that's not shown in the 63 shop manual, can this be left in? looks like it would be better for it to come out before it goes into the carb bath. thanks, hr | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I would try a heat gun on the housing. I am talking about the gun that is more or less a pumped up hair dryer.
Are you talking about the nozzle in the bore? Personally I wouldn't take it off because I would guess it is pressed in. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | thank you truckernix, that worked like a charm! i had a heat gun so that took care of it. it looks like it's pressed in. i don't remember seing this in any of the other b i have rebuilt, but it's prob been 4 years or so since i have done one. i don't see a picture of the brass tube in the 63 shop manual but i will just leave it in to let it soak. thanks again. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 188 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 188 | When mine was stuck, I soaked it with carb cleaner. After several soakings it was still stuck. I carefully tapped the end with the plastic handle of my screwdriver. It seemed to be moving so I soaked and tapped until it loosened and came free. No damage done. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | well the heat gun trick really worked. i just hope i will remember it if i run into it again. | | |
