found a guy trying to sell a 55 chevy 10 wheeler. no pics, no price, no phone number, nothing helpful other than an email. and email takes forever.

my question is did chevy make an advanced design 10 wheeler? or did they start the big big trucks after 55 1/2? hes about an hour away from me, but im going that way tomorrow. if he emails me back ill go check it out. Thanks guys!

I don't believe Chevrolet made a factory tandem axle until 1956. There were many earlier tandems but they were aftermarket setups, so your '55 could be either AD or TF. There have been a few shown on Stovebolt and I'm sure you'll be hearing about them soon.

Often owners on these old trucks don't even have the year or sometimes even the decade right. I do hope its a good buy for you, keep us updated.

James

If it is indeed a 1955 and is indeed a 10 wheeler it probably had a drag axle added at some point in time.

Like others have already said, no they didn't.

I don't know if GMC made a tandem New Design truck or not, but there is one that appears often at local truck shows. Turning a single axle truck into a tandem is easy enough I know its been done more than once.

Still no email. Dont need a tandem with original running gears. maybe put the cab (if its a LCF, or a GMC 5 window 55-57) on a later model big dump truck or even a street rod maybe. if its just a plain 55 chevy small back glass then its really not worth anything to me...

GMC, The First 100 Years by John Gunnell shows a '50 with tandem equipment. That was the earliest I could find.

Its a '57 2-ton (6400) wheelbase 156.5 inches.

There is a tool here on the Stovebolt for running a Chevy serial number. VIN Buster

Old task force tandems are a rare find, wish it were closer to NC. My father ran several TF tandem dumps for a number of years and I would like to find one someday. It would be great to see some pictures of this truck.
