Well, while waiting for the snow to pile up enough to go out and plow, I came up with a logo for the SVFD. I left the left and right wings of the Maltese cross blank -- I figured we could either put the helmet/axe/bugle graphic there, a ladder etc in there or we could put what our trucks are. i.e., for mine, I was thinking "Tanker Co." (vertical) on one side and "51" on the other. You guys with ladders or engines could do the same.

Great Minds... Last week I was talking to Ed about his firebolt I'm getting and worked this up. I'm thinking I want to put this on the doors when I get it.

Bill -- No, I have not seen the power unit yet nor have I heard from anyone other than you regarding it.

Steve -- Yeah, talked to Ed yesterday. I figured I'd better get on it. Not bad -- but if it says stovebolt.com, it has to have the logo

Mike -- The snow really piled up. We didn't get it as bad as Billy Marlow did on the north side of DC. He's been at work (the country club) since Friday and apparently they got the worst of it. We probably got about 24 inches out there. It's been drifting so it's deeper in some places, not so deep in others. I'm just going by what's on the deck. At the height of the storm yesterday, it was coming down about 4 inches an hour. And at one point yesterday, one of the front tires on the tractor went flat (it's had a slow leak and I had just aired it back up a couple of hours previously) and when I noticed it (at the far end of the driveway -- 1/4 mile from the house), it not only was flat, but off the rim -- So I had to put the bucket down and use it as a sled to get back to the house. I had to run out and get the tire fixed (our tractor/implement dealer was open all day helping folks deal with snow plowing, etc).

Hate to admit it, but I made the run in the F-350 flatbed. I had about 1,000 lbs of pea gravel in the back and driving was still tricky. Kept it in 2WD most of the way to keep it fun, though I'm not going to take an antique out in conditions like that and the Dodge ... well, hopefully I'll find it again when the snow melts

I grew up in Quebec and have seen heavy snowfalls in my life. This was as much in one snowfall/24-hour period as I've ever seen. It's not hype, it was one heck of a snow no matter where you're from.

I may have lost all opportunity to opine on the logo when I failed to "get 'er done" last year, but . . .

What do you think about putting "Chevy" under the STOVEBOLT part on the first version, and "GMC" just above the VOLUNTEERS part?

I think they're both very cool. I like the first one best, along with your personalization idea. Sign me up for 10 at least!

Mike That's a great idea. But ... It may run us afoul of the copyright attornies at General Motors. Plus, I doubt we would find anyone wanting to make them for us without a permission from GM. I'll ask, but they have not been helpful on such requests in the past.

OK, yeah, I can see (kindof) where there might be a problem. If it was Disney, they'd go after us immediately, I'm sure. They're known for having no sense of humor when it comes to their copyright.

Don't know how much GM cares about us poor gearheads . . .

Oh well. I like the idea of putting the hydrant and pike poles/ladders on there somewhere too.

Hey John, We have had over 40 inches plus drifting in the past week, I'm pretty sure we broke the record. Who has the worst after that tally?

Here in Southern Maryland we've gotten 66" so far this Winter, normal average is 18" total.

Darn it's been hard, Got a whoppin 2 inches total after the last two storms. I certainly am not complaining. I could learn to like this kind of winter...... Have fun, throw some snow balls...
Oh and by the by that logo is seriously kool. Makes me want to go find me a fire truck

So what's stopping you, KC?? better hurry, though -- it seems like the flood of antiques that hit the market after the Homeland Security funding started flowing is starting to subside.

In all honesty, I'm neck deep in projects already and getting short on years. Doesn't stop me from admiring them. I'll just have to come up with a cool logo for my shop truck.

Love the logo but why are ya'll complaining about snow. We just had 2" fall here in south La. this AM which might not sound like much to you, but that is on top Hell Freezing Over-Pigs Flying-and the WHO DAT NATION taking over what was the United States for our SAINTS. :-)

How about those Saints? I like the decal design but I am not going to put one on my truck as I'm trying to keep it as it was originally. But the logo design is cool...

No worries, Bill. Once I have a design folks like, I was going to make them available in the hooya shop as small stickers (like the other ones) that you can put wherever you like.

For me, as you know my truck is, as yet, unlettered. As nobody at the Seymour Ill. VFD has answered my several letters or emails over the past couple of years, I feel no obligation to reletter the truck for them, so this will be what goes on my truck. It will be the SVFD Tanker-Forestry Unit (Tanker Co. 51 -- it drives Roache crazy that I like that show so much )

well you gave them enough time. so do what you want. i used to send stuff to ashton but they too never responded, too bad it made the spammfaa engine-engine from the syracuse party in 08.

anyway with three sides flat, it should be easy to put whatever you want on it and end up with an appealing/ appearing logo, just dont make it tacky as for mike he was prbably watching sesame street while we were watching 51

I vote for an AD truck version as well.....There might be a 52 firetruck in my near future....

In fact, I have the guest room made up for you now. And Miss Ava was in there just this evening admiring Sumi (hanging on the wall). Oh, and while you're here lighting fires, maybe you could help me do the Pertronix Upgrade to Tanker 51 so we can finally throw that original distributor innards into the Chesapeake Bay ...

But back to lighting fires, should this Quebecois put up much of a fight, I doubt your West Coast butt could do much about it but given the circumstances, I'll go along.

I think we have the carb worked out. Now I just have to get the loose plate in the distributor fixed. Oh, and did I mention the vacuum system that's swiss cheese???

I am seriously considering removing the entire 305 V-6 and chucking it in the bay. I still have that Detroit 4-53T kicking around ....

I tried to start the truck last weekend. It said "No Way!" In fact, neither of the GMCs wanted to start last weekend. The 9500's 6-71 made one rev and then just clicked. Oh well. I can't wait until Spring.

I have a lot of work to do before the Apple Blossom Parade ...
