The number on the pad is F116 J. I think it must have been built in the Flint plant,by the "F" but I am not sure of the rest. I know its a 235, But I dont think it was original to My truck, any help would be appreciated

Note that the 1957 "J" code refers to a 235 Thriftmaster with updraft carburetor. In 1958 and 59 (and maybe later?) the "J" code simply meant regular production Thriftmaster 235.

As waldo53 suggests, post more casting codes if you want to try to figure out the year of the engine. As Randy suggests (and, if the valve cover has four screws/bolts holding it to the head), you have a non-original, later, high-pressure 235.

thanks for the replies,I didnt think that the engine I have was the original. Yes it does have four bolts holding the valve cover, I have the casting numbers from the cylinder head and I managed to decode that as a 59. I will check on the block casting numbers and post it with the head numbers in a day or so.
I guess that it would have had a low pressure 235 originally?
or a 216?

The 1959 truck Thriftmaster engine had a new, lower lift camshaft; valve springs and new carburetor calibrations. The rocker shaft assembly was also redesigned.
135 horsepower at 4000 rpm
217 ft. lbs. of torque at 2000 rpm
