Hello all, This my first post so be kind. I just bought a 1962 Stepside and would like to put in a new 1964 CHROME aftermarket grill. Do I need to buy their $300 Grill Support Panel for a 64-66 to make it work, our can I do a little improvising and make it work?

you will have to drill a few holes to match up to the 64 grill but other then that it will work.

RJ, which holes are different? I've seen the 64-66 grills put in all years of these trucks, but I don't remember if I ever swapped one myself. I do remember I put a '65 grill support on my '61, and the bolts that go through the support fit the '61 grill without having to re-drill them. Are the holes in the fenders different? Sorry if I mis-informed him.

Now that I think about it, I believe only the outer holes lined up, and they go through the support too, not through the fender. I just remember having to go from under the fender to get to the outer bolts. Sorry, it's been a while. My CRS is kicking in.

some grills have four holes and some are three holes to mount to the filler panel, yes Tony is a friend and Customer, we swap parts and info all the time. any info is good. i learn stuff about these trucks all the time.

The '60-'61 grille supports have the same grille assembly mounting holes. The '62 & '63 are different from each other and the 4-5-6 are the same for all three years. The grille assembly mounting brackets have the weld nuts attached to them, therefore, if installing a different grille assembly on another year grille support, you only need to redrill holes in the grille support (not the fenders) for proper alignment and securing the grille assembly.

In summary, all the grilles will interchange, somewhat, minus drilling a few additional holes.

great advice, i am changing a 63 onto a 65

Thanks for the help. One other problem that I ran into.... YOU NEED TO REPLACE/BUY/BORROW/STEAL New Headlight Buckets!!! or it's not going to work. You need the Buckets if you buy a new grill, because they don't come with, and the '62s won't work. I had to buy a new set from LMC at about $140 with shipping! This grill change is getting real expensive, and I'm not even finished yet :-(

Well, just finished the Grill Installation... not to difficult, only few cus words. The top bolts line up, but you need to drill (2) other holes on each side to attach. I had to use a longer bolt for the bottom mounts,and it doesn't mount flush to the Grill Support - about a 2" gap, not to noticeable but I know it's there! All in all, I guess where there's a will there's a way!

I think the 62 is one of the best looking of all the years did you consider just chroming the one from your 62? also there are some that are aluminum that you could just polish out and the others are painted steel.
