Ok,

What's the best way to mount these things? I don't have the original washer thingies, just exhuast mainifold studs, and some 3/8 washers. Clifford says this is the best way to install them. It's dry fitted today, and looks rather, um really bad shall we say? They are barely hanging on. Should I source an original set of those funny washers and use them instead? This washer setup, even though they say that's what I should do looks real amatuer. Thoughts?

I saw a set of intake/exhaust manifold clamps on ebay a couple of days ago. They're on there fairly often, at pretty reasonable prices. I think there have been some issues about aftermarket intake manifolds and headers having different-thickess flanges and causing leaks, IIRC.

Thanks Jerry. I think i'll call Jimbo and grab them just to have them anyway, and blast them up and that way, I can try both. It can't be any worse than the bent washers. I'd be curious to hear from anybody who has tried both.

I would use the stock clamps. You may find that you have to do some grinding on them to get them to fit everything correctly. Sometimes the exhaust and/or intake clamp pads need some grinding massage to make the clamps sit parallel to the cylinder head. At least, that has been my experience with Fenton cast iron headers and a variety of aftermarket intakes I have built. Forget using washers. Too much strain on the exhaust system over time will cause them to bend and fail.

Original "clamps" are the way to go especially when you have a set looking right at you and waiting for you on eBay.

Thanks gents. I'll just find a set of original clamps and fuss with them. Also, I wonder if the Jeep 4.0 clamps would work better. I think they're longer.
