I want reliabilty over anything else. What would be the best for me? Can I get a 235 without "babbit" bearings?? What years of motors have the "good" 250's? Any advice would be great. If you know of any for sale in the northwest please let me know. Thank you! | | |

Get one from a '54-'62 (excluding '62 Nova) car or truck. Patrick's or Stovebolt Engine can help with information on the swap. You may consider a 261 as well. It'll bolt up the same as a 235, just has a larger displacement. Welcome aboard the 'Bolt, let us know how it works out on your '50.

The question would be how much work do you want to do? If you don't mind doing the changes required to do the 250, by all means go for it. But if you're looking for an easy bolt in that keeps the balance of the original trans/rearend and the original look, then the 235/261 is the one to go with. Do some more research on the links page before you decide what to do, that way you will know what you'll need for either engine.
