I want reliabilty over anything else. What would be the best for me? Can I get a 235 without "babbit" bearings?? What years of motors have the "good" 250's? Any advice would be great. Get one from a '54-'62 (excluding '62 Nova) car or truck. Patrick's or Stovebolt Engine can help with information on the swap. You may consider a 261 as well. It'll bolt up the same as a 235, just has a larger displacement.

The question would be how much work do you want to do? If you don't mind doing the changes required to do the 250, by all means go for it. But if you're looking for an easy bolt in that keeps the balance of the original trans/rearend and the original look, then the 235/261 is the one to go with.
Do some more research on the links page before you decide what to do, that way you will know what you'll need for either engine.

#61557 06/10/2006 7:47 PM | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 63 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 63 | I am going with 250 out of a 78 nova a T5 will go behind that.I have found a basic motermount that will put the motor right in my 53'it is avalible at Langdons Stovebolt,and then a basic crossmember mount for the tranny.Other mods include clutch linkage-dosent look to serious,water temp gage cappillary tube is to short-longer ones are available-possible cooling fan clearance problem,I think i will run a electric in front of the raidiator as a pusher.
