I know the engine runs great though it is underpowered when the truck is loaded down. Thanks again for the info. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | You bet! If it truly is a '53 PG motor it is the very first of the full-pressure oiled 235's and should be equipped with hydraulic lifters. Should be a good engine for your truck. As far as I can tell, the PG car motors had the same HP rating as the big-truck 235's had in '53. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 85 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 85 | I sure appriciate the info. Should I get head numbers? if this is a 235 car engine does that mean it would be a Blue Flame? I am glad to hear this is a suitable truck engine I understand there were a couple more versions of this engine in this same time frame. When I get time I want to pull it out of there and repaint it the entire truck needs a restore for that matter

If it is a '53 powerglide there should be a pair of raised marks cast into the block. They are referred to as "captains bars" and are about 1/8" high, 1/4" wide and 1" long. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 85 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 85 | Ok I looked today and see the two bars in the block by the starter. So this verifies that this is a 235 PG engine? Would this be a Blue Flame? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | It depends on who's description of a Blue Flame you read. Some Chev historians claim the first Blue Flame appeared on the '53 Corvette. Other's say it began with the first P/G equipped cars with the 235 (1950). I think it's safe to say though that a '53 P/G motor is a Blue Flame. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 85 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 85 | Thanks again for all the info and links guys. Yes I imagine this engine does have the hyd lifters as it idles very quite. This would sure make a nice engine for a 3100 that is on my wish list. Then I will put a 292 or a 250 if I cannot find a 292 in that 6400 | | |
