So I'm in the planing stage of putting a new engine in my 68 GMC. I see lots of really cool dress up accessories for chevy, not so much for GMC. would I be commiting some kind of blasphemy by putting bowtie valve covers etc. on the engine in my GMC? Would it be like wearing a Harley Davidson vest while riding a metric cruiser? That could get your butt kicked.

Why, does it bother you? It's your truck and if it doesn't work it would probably sit, get rusted and eventually go to the scrapper. There are enough originals out there for the purists. smile

I'm more in the class of a "purist". Now having said that , I am in deep admiration of the world class innovation and performance magic I see in the creative genius on this site. Much of it is pure art with muscle and know-how combined. So let it be with your bowtie adorned Jimmie. Think of all the friends you'll make as they stare in wonderment at your own individuality and creativity. Your truck, your pleasure - put them bowties to work. I certainly won't criticize, just look at what I did. Actually I enjoy the funny looks of people trying to figure it out.

Well its your truck and you should do as you please with it. Personally I'd be more inclined to put GMC logos on my Chevy.

Reminds me of a story about a fellow in England who bought a Spitfire aircraft just when the RAF were demobilizing them. Because the Spit was still in the RAF inventory the private owner could not paint it in RAF markings so he painted it bright red.
When criticized for it he said "its my plane and I'll paint it any colour I want!"

Although I do agree with what everyone else here has said.

um as far as the truck goes, I say you custom paint the old GMC logo in the bowtie and really spin their heads smile

Seriously though, I don't think enough people know, can Identify or even spend enough time looking to figure it out. so either way I think you are safe. and or the purist...... well I guess it comes down to if you are a purist then it would drive you nuts. if your worried about other purist.... well I almost said something mean.

Hate to be the broken record but it really is your truck roll the sucker how YOU want and tell anybody that challenges you other wise that if they are willing to pay for the changes you would gladly change it out for them smile

good luck bro.

I have a Chevy 350 / 350 in my 1930 F@@d pickup and I once had

a F@@d ranger with a Toyota Bed on it …I painted FOROTA on the

tailgate and actually had some thinking it was a concept truck

….. GO FOR IT !!
