I have a carb (28AV11) and want to rebuild it. All the passages are sealed with lead plugs, and the rebuild kit does not contain any.

Anyone have a source for lead plugs? Or know of a complete kit with the lead plugs?

Go to any sporting goods department, including Wally World, and pick up a package of split shot fishing weights. Little lead balls, in all sorts of diameters. The split mends itself when you tap it into the hole in the carb.

Why pull them out? Unless a carb is all corroded up a good soak, rinse, & air blast will clean all the passages.

A way back when I was a young sprout, my pop who was an old journyman mechanic taught me to pull the plugs and clean all the passages. Back then when you bought a carb rebuild kit it would have new lead plugs included. Quite often the carb cleaner doesn't get into the corners of deep passages. Much of the time I still try to pull the plugs if it looks like I can't get in to the passage with a pipe cleaner and solvent.
I've made up aluminum plates with a taperd hole that I can use to form new plugs. If you drill the hole small then work the bit around to taper the lip some you can make a pretty good tapered plug. A soldering iron will melt enough lead to fill the hole and with it you can shape a fairly good rivet head. A good rap on the table will usually dislodge the plug from the mold.

Do you mean actual lead, or solder?
Lead melts at 622° F - my soldering iron won't do much.

I've just used solid solder in the past.

My Weller D650 will melt lead, but solder will work, I would use rosin core instead of acid core solder though. .177 pellets for a pellet gun will work on a Zenith carb. I'm not sure if pellet guns are still around.
