now im pulling out motor,no power.
im puting in a 270 gmc:1958.looks like its going to work.
is there any problems i should be aware of,
almost the same question as jammer.

You many need to change the front mount on the 270 to the earlier type, but externally there are few differences and those are mostly in the accessories.
I'm not an expert on cranks and flywheels for these things and can't speak to what you may find there.
I have a later 270 in an earlier truck and my biggest complaint is the BC GMC logo on the valve cover. Because I don't have the earlier oil fill tube I can't easily swap to the early GMC logo. Some day I'll solve that problem.

In fact a Chev front motor mount/cam cover will work too. Your flywheel is probably a 4 bolt on the 46 and a 6 bolt on the 58. The 58 will have the smaller teeth designed for the 12 volt starter. 6 bolt 6 volt flywheels are around, but are scarce and therefor expensive. I know a guy that puts 12 volt field coils in a 6 volt and could probably do it the other way around. Do you have a starter on the 58 engine. It will be a different tooth count than the 46. | | |
