Hello all,
I need to remove the exhaust pipe mounting bolts from my exhaust manifold on my 235. Is their a secret trick? It’s a stock manifold and it looks like they are threaded all the way through the flange.

When I got the truck one of them was broken half off and it had a vice grip with some good old bailing wire wrapped around it in order to form a clamp.

If I cant get them out I was planning on grinding it flat and drilling out the holes so I could jut run bolts through it. I have a Mil at work to do the drilling.

Ya sometimes they come easy, some times hard, and some dont come at all. I have a lot of luck driling them out with cobalts drills and then retaping them. If you to use heat dont do it before you drill, cause heat makes the studs harder than they started out to be. Make sure you drill out to the right size. You can crack the flange if you tap to small a hole.

Thanks Jeff
I was thinking to drill it out and then just run a bolt through it and put a nut on the other side, that way if they break again I just repace the bolts instead of repeating the process.

But the re taping thing is probably the way to go.

Heat the cast around the stud till it's nice and red, as long as you can get a wrench or at least a vise grip on it, it should simply walk out every time. wink

Yep, heat the manifold good and red hot. whatever you do don't cool it off with water just let it cool down on its own. Would'nt want to crack it.
