Like OldSub says, need to know what the original application was. There were several different V8s in '96. There was the basic TPI 350, sued in Caprices, the LT1 and LT4 350 (Corvette, Impapla SS, Camaro), LT1 based 265 (Caprice economy option, was also available as crate engine), and the Vortec engine used in trucks, which was built as a 305 and a 350. Each is different, and requires different parts to swap to a carb. At minimum, you're looking at an intake and dizzy, possibly a cam swap, too. With the LT engines, you have to deal with the lack of a conventional distributor, which can get $$$. Crate versions of the LT4 engine can take a conventional GM distributor in the standard location, I'm not sure about the production version of that engine.
