Today I bought a new (reman) water pump for my 50 216 from my local NAPA store. There price was 49.99 exchange. The price was good enough for me and lots cheaper than any of the "old truck vendors" I know of. It came with a one year warranty. When I saw the pump I almost didn't give up my original GM core. This pump was obviously an aftermarket and looked new though it was sold as a reman. It was definitely not an original GM rebuilt. It had a cast/forged machined pulley instead of the stamped steel original. Maybe that's all there is available??? Is there anyone out there that rebuilds original water pumps? :confused:

Yuor 216 uses a pump that comes with a pulley?? Must be differnt than any of mine. The only engine i know of the have a pully on the reman are the newer 235"s

I have replaced water pumps on 216 engines.They all had the pulley pressed on them.I never seen them sold without the pulley.Amazing what you learn everyday.

I know you are looking for a cheaper version but ... Patricks is now having his own pumps forged. It is very professionally done .. even has Patricks stamped in the metal. If nothing else at least give them a call and let them know what you are dealing with. Chances are they probably have a solution.

I am sure this pump will work. I just don't like it. I know I'm being picky and this is probably similar to any that are available anywhere. My old pump was an original GM casting, maybe the original to this truck. I read in the shop manual the procedure to rebuild them, replace the seal & bearings. I'm just wondering if there is anyone I could send an original to and have them rebuild my pump and send it back? Too late for this one.

I'd expect any run of the mill machine shop could rebuild it for you.

I bought a reman from NAPA about 6 months,GM was casted into.They probably just rebuild what they got.

Take a close look at the diameter of the hub that the fan fits on. The pumps with the cast pulleys I have seen lately have to small of a diameter so the fan will not be centered correctly.

I had a leaking radiator so I had it repaired before I installed the WP. I got back on it last night. Installed radiator and water pump no problem. THEN I looked more closely at the fan. The WP hub was large enough for the fan, perfect fit actually, but the rivets that joint the fan blades together hit the pulley. :mad: It would not bottom out on the pulley. So I started looking at the rusted fan pretty close (I know, something I should have done before now.) It has a crack near the center hole. Who sells replacement fans? I have another fan that came off of my 58 235 I have disassembled but it is different: it has a smaller center hole and the bolt hole spacing is a smaller circle. It looks almost new so I am guessing it is repop. Do the popular vendors sell fans? and do they fit? :confused: Thanks!

Chevy Duty lists a fan for the 216 engine. Part 83-405 - $29.95

There is probably some guy out there building a mid-60s 4 door, and he opens the box on his reman water pump and thinks, "Rats! This has a stamped steel pulley! Where's my casting??"

Thanks Fred. I'm worried that the Chevy Duty fan will have the same problem with the rivets as my original. TxLaTx, you're right, some folks are never satisfied.

I purchased a nos water pump.I pulled it out of the box today and cleaned off any oil residue.I primered it this evening and noticed it did not have the gm and casting numbers on it.I talked with the seller and he figures it must be a new old replacement stock pump.It has a T casted close to where the radiator hose hooks up.I turned it over to look inside of it.The gear has gm and casting numbers on it.It all looks new,is this a remanufactured pump ? I'm not to concerned if it has gm and casting numbers.Just curious what i bought ? The seller did gaurantee it and said if it leaks, he will replace it.What's your thoughts ??

It's a long way from you but I had my water pump remanufactured, that is everything new except the casting and pulley in Fresno, Ca. it cost me $65.00, it was bead blasted and looks like a new pump. Can you post the name and number.I'm sure there are others interested or will be.I have already paid for the pump i got.It looks brand new,just does'nt have the gm casting numbers. I am going to run this pump,it's gauranteed.I do have an original one, i would like to send in sometime.
