I just replaced the upper shifter rod coupling right below the shifter. I am in the process of trying to slide the two rods together at the lower coupling to make the groove of the coupling match each other so the bolts will go back in and I am having trouble.Has anybody had this problem?

Make sure the trans and the gearshift are in neutral. This should ease alignment.
