Daniel, any mechanic will tell you the mechanic work is much easier and less demanding on skill, talent, and creativeness than body work. I suspect you won't have a problem except perhaps the same one we all have, $$$$$$$$$.
Good luck to you with the exception of February 13th when Tulsa plays Memphis.

I'm a mechanic by trade. Bodywork is easy compared to doing frontend and brake repair.

To block sand a 61 Chrysler Imperial or a brake job on a Ford Galaxy? An easy choice for me.

Can you see a 1/32" difference in the hood alignment gap from one side to another? Now, try running 30 thousandths of rod bearing clearance sometime!

I appologize if I offended, but to say that mechanical work takes less talent than bodywork just ins't the case. Try aligning a Trailblazer or Envoy, it's not an easy job. Or better yet, corrcting GMs fouled up specs on the Colorado so it won't chew up the tires. I suppose if you look at it from the point of just "thowing parts at it", then yes, mechanical work is easier. But to truly be able to diagnose and repair problems and not be a "parts installer" takes quite a bit of skill, talent, and creativenss, as much or more than bodywork.
BTW, I did all of the mechanical and bodywork, including paint, on my '55. Even got prise by a local bodyshop on how well it turned put.

lol didn't mean to start a battle lol all i ment was one usually means your not good at the other lol one is completely feeling your way through the process IE. block sanding a body trying to find waves you can't see with the eye there is no tool thats going to show your or tell you its there, while mechanics have to know volumes of data but have the advantage of eveything being able to be measured or mic'd one is pure right brain other is left brained smile

to do any trade well takes skill. most anyone can put on bodyfiller and paint hides a lot of evils. nobody will look at your vehicle after you do something to it and say that it looks like a bunch of crap; they will be for the most, polite and say doesn't that look good.and most can't really tell you the difference between good and bad work.just look at many apply JD blitz black to their vehicles

I think whatever you are trained (or have experience) in is easier than that trade you have no experience or training in. That said, I think mechanical stuff is more a precision skill, and body work is more manual labor intensive. It looks like neither is "easy", each one takes skill and patience to do a quality job. My personal preference is mechanical stuff (partially because I have a son-in-law that does body work).

My two cents...

I'm pretty much self-taught in both areas and find mechanical work easier than body work. I think a lot of that is how my mind works, and people who are wired differently are likely to find different skills easier to learn and use.

I'm glad we're all different, otherwise you'd all be like me and none of us would be happy.

lol chevman i disaggree body work is very much precision if you have ever seen a nicely done black paint job first thing any bodyman will tell you "you better be dam good at body work before you attempt it" a badly done bondo bomb will show every repair if you don't know what your doing or spraying a candy on if you don't lay the candy just right you will have light and dark spots as i stated before mechanics have it tough but they can always measure and reference a book bodywork is all about artistry and a keen eye and a high degree of touch.

Daniel,

I've got too many projects of my own to qualify as a certified volunteer, but I'd like to see your project some time. I live up the road a bit in Owasso.
