Well, this has been interesting. My PPG guy called the archives and got a formula for Cape Maroon, and he had them shoot the pecan brown and wicker brown colors with the gun to get a formula. One small glitch. I have to order DBC to formulate them. Ouch. It's only 305.00 per gallon for the base, and 235.00 for the clear. No reducers in that price folks. Ouch. So, since i've had great experience with the Sherwin Williams products, I can order a gallon of the 7000 for about half that price and the dimension is around 1/3 that cost, so I ordered half pints from the PPG guy, i'll shoot those panels and have the Sherwin Williams guy shoot that with his gun and i'll spray some test panels to see how close it is. I've had good results with the gun matching and have painted some blow in's and full motorcycles very successfully. I am not worried too much if it's off a fraction because I am painting the entire vehicle. I am hoping somebody will give me a formula, and if they do, I'm posting it for the paint for Base / clear applications for anybody who wants it.

So I shot the colors tonight on a panel. I'll do it again, but I just wanted to take a look at them. Very happy with the pecan and Cape Maroon. Love the colors. One small issue, (I think) They mixed the Wicker Brown as a metallic color. I think they screwed up but I wanted to confirm with you guys. Was the wicker brown suppose to have metal in it? Tim, are you out there? I think this is their mess up.

I do not know if the Wicker Brown is a metallic. And, my eyes are not the ones to trust when it comes to shades.

Also, I had my 54/55 GMC's interior colors computer analyzed and was told it is metallic (it looks like the darker of the two browns). I could not see the metallic but my two friends could.

Did you see this thread regarding Pecan Brown & Wicker Brown in pre-53 Suburbans?

Patrick,here is a picture of my 1951 suburbans firewall.Is this cape maroon or burgundy maroon ? This is the original color of my suburban,somebody painted white over the exterior.

Burgundy Maroon was used only in 1953. Cape Maroon was used from 1947 through 1953.

Tim, if it is not too cold, and you are near your truck, it would be interesting to see a closer photo of a buffed-up section of your firewall. (Place a sheet of dull gray or light brown paper next to the firewall - this would allow a better color contrast/comparison and a better exposure setting for the camera).

Sorry it took me so long to take some pictures.I waxed a spot on the firewall and took some pictures for you guys.This is the original factory cape maroon color.
