Do I need the key to remove the ignition switch? I've followed all the directions I could find on removing the ign switch but still can't remove it. The truck didn't have keys when i got it and I'm wondering if I need them to remove the lock cylinder. The switch is the half-moon type, so I'm wondering if it was the original switch to start with. Also, there are two pin holes and I don't know which to insert the paperclip in, and what position the switch should be in.

For the original switch and any others that I have ever changed you need the key. The switch needs to be in off but not lock position when you press the pin in the hole then turn the key counter clockwise until it comes out. Mine has one hole and it is on the top right when the key is in off not lock mode. You may be able to use something other than the key to turn it but im not sure about that so take it easy if you try.
