I haven't scrounged up another guage yet to check against it but I was wondering if there is some kind of relief valve in the pump.The pump is brand new. I'd rather have too much than not enough.I was wondering if it is a relief valve problem could I try using my drill with screwdrier bit in the dizzy hole and run it in reverse to shake things up ? I want to avoid dropping the pan if possible. If you have it in an older chassis that had a splash system they only went to 30 lbs.

It can also blow out the gasket at the oil filter cover, if the engine is equipped with one. Try plumbing a known good-condition gauge right into the pressure port on the side of the engine. A 0-100 lb. gauge shouldn't peg out if the relief valve is working, and if it does, you definitely need to drop the pan and figure out why the valve is sticking.
