The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop washer glued to freeze plug

Am selling my 54 235 to a guy in Oregon and was taking a closer look at the engine and noticed the little washer with lead like substance in the center that the rebuilders intall on a freeze plug for warranty puposes to see if you have overheated engine, ??? when did they start using those. Would like to let Chris know for more info on the engine. Thanks for any input in advance.

I saw them on Jasper engines in the eighties, so it's been a while.

Ya, I had seen them in the late eighties but wasnt sure if they used them in the seventies or sixties, a rebuild in the eighties is better than an original 54 motor in my opinion, when you consider the use in the last decade then it would be a low miles engine. Thanks for your input!!!

The heat tabs are still used in the industry but the latest technology is a sticker.It serves the same purpose but instead of melting at 260 degrees they turn red.
