For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 50 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 50 | I'm back, 1942 dump truck. Where do i find out what the truck is? No glove box so no id. I'm assuming 1.5 ton? Also, I have no brakes, the front rubber lines are gone. Any parts shop suggestions or just try and match up? On the rear, dual wheels, do i have to pull the axles or is the drum seperate? Any help on maybe buying parts? Not looking to resotre, just looking to use on the farm so just a little brake would be nice | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 50 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 50 | | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 21 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 21 | If it has 136-1/2inch wheelbase, it started life as a 1-1/2 ton, but with those massive plates on the chassis rails could have been uprated. Also look for heavier front axle as used on Canadian Maple Leaf trucks. OLD 42 | | |

Your VIN plate should be on the right side of the cowl, under the hood. It should start with a single or two-digit number, followed by a two-letter identifier (that could be MR--134.5" or MS--160"). If your VIN plate is there, you should be able to break the code using the Art Deco Site (a link off The Stovebolt Page).
Parts places' links are also here. Jim Carter, Chevs of the 40's, etc might have what you need.
