Newbie here. Been around Chevy straight 6's my
whole life. My favorite engine of all time. I still
remember mom and dad trying to convince my
wife and I (we were like 22) not to tow that little Bowler Trailer from Mid Ontario to the east coast
and back with my 62 Invader. Take dads new truck. Sally and I tossed in a new
clutch, PP and bearing and away we went in the Acadian. Well we almost made it there. Fuel pump went 4 days later. We were only stuck for 2 hours in the middle of Nowheresville New Brunswick. The old beast made it there and back. after just that one little hickup.
Thems were the Good ole Days eh...........

I am now 48.................
Been wanting a nice old Chevy Truck for decades
now. Going for a long drive on this sunday after
Christmas to view a couple. The red (see picture's)is a 3/4 ton
1965 with smokey motor and big bucks 7995 Kanuk Bucks, Has
a 250 with a 4 speed, Bull Low 1st gear. Devil on fuel? Guy says I won't find a better Original body
anywhere, stored 26 years, no rust, original paint
and unmolested interior. Never seen Salt. Just way too much for me and my budget

Green 66 is a short box 1/2 ton. Not original paint or hubcaps I noticed. Spose to be real solid southern truck. Tennessee was it's home. Don't they get snow
and salt? The big plus for me, the green is an inline 6 but 3 in the tree shifting, too cool! My first car was a 1962 Invader with 3 in the tree, I still miss that
shift into second. Again I told buddy, ZERO rust and
he said it's all good.

I got my heart set on the green shortbox. It's still
pricey but so is shipping a cheap one from the south. Be around 5,500 canadian and it's only 105 miles away, the red one just so happens to be in
the same county, imagine that. I'll try and post a
picture but I don't have any good one's. That
makes me nervous.....

I do like the 65 3/4 ton but I have 2 snowmobiles
and 8 motor bikes in my 2 car garage now. I can't help it, its a disease I have. Short box will allow
more junk in my garage. Where do I look for terminal rust damage on these old beasts of burdon?
I already have my pro's in order, what about the cons of a 66 Chevy. BTW all the cons in the world won't
stop me from buying smile

Looks like a cool Forum, thanks for having me

Welcome to stovebolt, I like the red one but maybe it's just because of the picture quality. The green one looks like it might have new paint, do you have any better pictures?

Thanks for the welcome. Is the 66 a stovebolt?
Heard the name before, "Stovebolt".

I really like the red one...alot. But the Green short box
is real cool too. The green one is a repaint, I asked
already as it looked as if the clear is coming off.
They didn't clear the old cars to my knowledge.
I am going to call the guy with the green one
and see if I can get some detail pictures. I won't be doing a concours resto as I am too poor, for now. I just want a truck to go to the farm and cut wood, maybe to the beer store and back....just a truck for
around town, weekends. I am going to go and call
the guy now. This is real exciting stuff. I got lots
of 60's experience, just a little rusty....

SON OF A GUN, is that a nice truck you got there, wow

Learn all you can and don't jump into the first truck you see. there are lots of trucks out there and most of them are for sale for the right price. Thanks for the compliment and here is the answer to What is a stovebolt?

Not the first one I looked at, those two were
my 2nd and 3rd LOL. I kinda know what I am
looking for, mint burns no oil, all original for
less than 4 grand, delivered to the Great White North.

In my dreams eh!

Well the green one is out, I just got a link to the
place that is selling it. I'd rather pay 75oo for
a mint body, than 54oo for this old rusty one.
I am passing on the green one and will consider
paying the big bucks for near zero rust with a
bad engine. My problem is delivery factored in
with the time off work to go and look at one
in the sunny south. I'll be having a real close
look under the red one.

I really do like the long box better for a truck.
I'll never venture much further than 100 miles
with it. Plus I'd love to buy a camper for the back.
Heres the link to Green one in case you want to
see it

It's the 66 on page 4. Just read the "Whats a Stovebolt" cool, guess I have been one for
30 years now, with a 20 year leave of absence.
Everytime I look at the red 65 I get all funny
feeling, is that normal?

I would lose the link to that dealer, his prices are wishful thinking at best.
Prime Colorado example. $1000 in my price range

or if you want done and done right, just drive it $4800

I bought the 65 yesterday. it is from
Billings Montana. I doubt there are many
"Original" left there in this condition.
This thing is perfect underneath. Original Brake
lines are still ok and other than a small
perforation at the bottom of each front
fender, rust free. Interior is beyond excellent.
Other than a couple holes in the steel
dash for what ever it is mint, original
floor rubber is perfect. This little beggar
was inside his shop for over 20 years. Cab
and suspension rubber still looks new and
not dried out. I paid 7 but you gotta factor
in the cost of me or paying someone to
bring me one home. Plus the fact it wouldn't
get my seal of approval before I buy. Solid
solid tight old beast I won't even paint as
it's not just good, it's good enuff. I'll get
some under the hood shots and interior
shots when I P/U next week. In Ontario
old Mint cars are twice to three times the
money you guys closer to the Jewell Belt live.
7K, IMO 1,ooo-1,5oo too much but it's a done
deal and I am truly in love with this thing.
I hope I don't wear off the Original paint
looking at it over this winter....

Hi Kawboy congrats on the '65. I have had a '65 c20 for around 12 years now. It is nearing the end of a complete restoration. This is a great place to find info on your truck, many knowledgeable and helpful people here!

Got her home over the holiday's. I was going to trailer it
but the roads got salted so I rented a Flatbed and brought
it home. Got very little spray as it was up nice and high.
Spent 20 bucks at the car wash and did every inch of it
twice. Driver of truck was a little mad having to wait until
I reminded him he was two hours late picking me up. Still
no pictures. So amazed, this is my first car with no bondo.
Wheel cylinders are stuck but the MC is free. Drums are
mint needs shoes. She'll be getting driven as is once I
fix brakes. Original Ball joints still ok as are tie rods, idler's
etc. All the rubber bits on suspension are mint, soft and
pliabl. Maybe a hanger bearing and U-joints too

Has 2 brand new front tires and real nice rear snows.
Man this old girl is going to howl. Other than extra holes
drilled in the doors they are perfect, Cab corners and rockers
perfect, tailgate was never on truck, it is "pristine". Fenders
are sweet except the "normal" rust behind front tire. I am
in love with this truck, is this normal? It's like a disease. I can't
afford a full restore, she's a summer truck (no rain either) to cut wood
for my shop.

A "Bolterholic". I am also a Kawasaki "TripleHolic", I got a couple
nice old H1's and a "project H2" I just found last fall.

A friend told me the name of a place in the Kitchener Waterloo area that has repro stuff. I need a rear view
mirror and other things to make it legal.
