Do you have pictures of the wheels posted anywhere?

My father gave me a set of tubeless 8 lug rims that he said came from a later model Chevy truck. Maybe that's what you have?

Can you look a little harder at the tires for size? I didn't think GM ever used an 18 except in a dual application. I'm not speaking from certain knowledge, just what I've seen...

I expected to see dually type wheels.

Well at least I'm not confused about the 18 inch wheels any more. However, I don't think we're any closer to answering your question.

I don't know much about 17 inch wheels, including when they were offered or what tire options were available. You might try digging through the restoration pack pages to see what was offered when and that might get you down the path to an answer.

17" multi piece rims are normal and original on AD single wheel 1 tons.
I've not seen an old 17" tubeless wheel. (not to be confused with the new tubeless 17" wheels on newer cars and trucks)

I expect those wheels you have that appear to be tubeless in fact are, but are really 17.5" wheels. They are somewhat desirable, I've seen them sell and even sold some for more than I thought they were worth.

I prefer 19.5" wheels though, they are tubeless too and look about the right size on the 1 tons.

So what is the real objective here? Identify the wheels and tires you have or determine what you want to put on this or another truck?

For 1954 the restoration pack shows only tube type tires available on 17 inch wheels for a single wheel 1-ton, so I'd conclude they are not original for an AD truck.

But I'd sure not be surprised if somewhere along the line someone upgraded.

My question is still:
Are they really 17" wheels (I doubt it) or are they actually 17.5" wheels.

Either way one piece wheels were not factory on AD 1 ton trucks.

The 3 piece semi drop center wheel was the common wheel used on Chev and GMC 1 tons and an option on 3/4 ton GMC. I think Ford used a 17" drop center (one piece) wheel that used 17" tube required tires at one time. Ford and GM used the same 8 hole bolt pattern. The center hole on a Ford was a little larger than GM. A Ford wheel will fit a GM but a GM will not fit a Ford. It could be a Ford wheel. It was common to use what you could make fit in the time this vehicle was still in use.

Interesting to learn, I'll keep an eye out for them just out of couriosity.

I do know Ford used 17.5" tubeless wheels too, I had dual ones on a 61 F350, and there's an early 60's pickup near me with single 17.5" wheels, but both were/are 6 lug.

Sounds to me like you got a little lucky. It could be easier to find tires and someone to mount them.

We have a 1970 c-30 chevy drill team truck that has from the factory 18"wheels on split rims.I do not know what the [roblem with these rims are.We are pushing 789hp to the wheels and stop these trucks quicker and faster in 500 feet than a new z06.Go to youtube and look up piston knockers drill team and watch the vids with a 71'chevy c-30.tell me what you think of us new yorkers after that.

What tires are you running? Where do you get them?

From my standpoint tire availability is the biggest challenge with the 18 inch factory wheels.

We are running on the one truck 18's.the tires came from.let me think here for a minute universal vintage tire. they sell the tires(18") and tubes and the flaps.the tires are rather skinny and I would like to see something taller and wider.but good tires.
